Pediatric Sedationin Centre County
Dental visits can feel overwhelming for some children and we understand that. Sitting still for long periods, unfamiliar sounds, or fear of the unknown can make dental care challenging. Pediatric sedation helps your child stay calm, relaxed, and comfortable during treatment. It’s one of the ways we work to create positive, stress-free dental experiences that help kids feel good about caring for their smiles.

Why Should I Choose Pediatric Sedation For My Child?
Pediatric sedation is a great option to make dental visits easier and more positive for your child. It helps children who feel anxious, nervous, or have trouble sitting still remain relaxed during their appointment. With sedation, your child can receive the care they need without the fear or discomfort and your dentist can work more efficiently and gently. We’ll always talk with you beforehand to determine whether sedation is the right option for your child’s individual needs.
Board-Certified Pediatric Dentists
Rest assured that your child is receiving top-notch, specialized care with our Board-Certified Pediatric Dentists. To be recognized by The American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, doctors must undergo extensive training in the pediatric field in addition to their standard dental degrees.

General Anesthesia
General anesthesia is a wonderful option for children who need extra support to receive dental care comfortably and safely, whether due to extensive dental needs, anxiety, or special healthcare needs. With general anesthesia, your child will be completely asleep during their treatment, so they won't feel or remember a thing. Best of all, our board-certified anesthesiologist is here at our practice full-time, so your child receives expert, specialized care every step of the way.

Moderate Conscious Sedation
Some children need a little extra help feeling comfortable and relaxed during dental treatment. For these patients, we offer moderate conscious sedation, often called “twilight sedation.” This type of sedation helps your child feel calm, comfortable, and less aware of the dental procedure while still being able to respond to simple instructions. Most children remember very little about their visit afterward.
Moderate conscious sedation is often a great option for children who:
- Experience significant dental anxiety
- Need extensive treatment completed in fewer visits
- Have difficulty sitting comfortably for dental procedures
- Have had challenging dental experiences in the past
To help your child relax, we combine the sedation medication with nitrous oxide (“laughing gas”) and carefully monitor them throughout the entire appointment. Our goal is to provide a safe, comfortable experience while helping your child receive the dental care they need.

Laughing Gas for Little Smiles
The most mild form of sedation, nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas or minimally inhaled sedation, is a safe way to ensure your child stays relaxed during their treatment.

The Benefits of Pediatric Sedation
Calming Worries and Dental Fears
Many children feel nervous about dental visits, especially when treatment is involved. Sedation helps quiet those fears, allowing your child to feel relaxed and secure throughout their appointment instead of overwhelmed or scared.
Supporting Comfort During Treatment
Sedation works alongside local anesthesia to keep your child comfortable during dental procedures. This combination helps minimize discomfort, making treatment easier for your child and more reassuring for parents
Managing Gag Reflex and Needle Phobia
For children with a sensitive gag reflex, sedation can make dental care much more manageable, especially for treatments involving back teeth. It can also help kids who are anxious about numbing shots feel calmer and more at ease.
